Director, First-Year Experience & Student Success

I have been an educator for over 25 years, the majority of which have been in Higher Education. I have been a faculty member, Director of a comprehensive Academic Support Department and the Director of the First-Year Experience (FYE)/Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) & Student Success Program for the past 8 years. In addition to administrative functions, I provide ongoing professional development and training for all faculty who teach the FYE/IDS courses. I also work closely with faculty to integrate learning/success skills into content area coursework, and continue to develop and participate in many initiatives, like SMART START, the new student onboarding in August, 2019. I was also a member of the Instructional Practices Subcommittee funded by the Board of Higher Education, which produced the report “Access and Quality: Improving the Performance of Community College Developmental Education Programs.” This project, a first for Massachusetts community colleges, provided criteria for assessment in the areas of developmental reading, writing and mathematics. It outlined a clear framework for the assessment of all students and for the instruction, advisement and support of those who need additional academic help.
