Cultivating Critical Thinking in an Age of “Fake News”

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

This session provides a forum to discuss the increasing challenges we all face in finding, evaluating, and synthesizing news from various sources, as well as techniques to address these challenges with community college students. What makes information reliable? How do we tell fact from fiction? What does it mean to be informed? Are there objective facts, and how do we find them? We will showcase the work we have initiated to engage students in frank, realistic discussions about media as part of the introductory sociology curriculum, and also solicit ideas and insights from session participants.
